Play

CHRIS MAHER speaks to John Healy about the Musical Youth Foundations aims and mission. He begins by explaining how the foundation came about as part of his involvement in the Dublin Soul festival. He tells of their involvement in enabling children to play musical instruments in schools and group centres. They also talk of using music as a way to both help with stress and also to develop a childs self confidence and their ability to communicate.

He explains how the classes work in a group setting, in particular in Youth clubs and shares some particular stories of children involved with the foundation.

They carry on speaking about how songwriting is also a part of what they try to encourage.

They then speak of StubHub musical education which has enabled them with funding for 6 or 7 activity groups in different areas. Following on from that the talk about the ethos and funding behind the organisation and how it operates on a “pay what you can” basis in relation to the likes of the Dublin Soul Festival.
