FIONA MOORE of Dublin City Council joins Pat Meehan to discuss the City Neighbourhood awards which took place the previous week. Fiona explains the work of the awards in encouraging people to rejuvenate green space in their areas and remove graffiti and such in their locale.
They discuss how people can go about setting up their own group in order to avail of grants to assist their work and look at what grants are available and what the money can be used for.
Fiona discusses the process for judging the competition and speaks of the ever improving level of work that the top groups are producing. We hear that Woodlawn estate in Santry won the best estate in All of Ireland for their work. Ard na Graine, winning the 300 houses plus category. Best apartment complex was awarded to NABCO in Newtown court on the Malahide Road. Danville Court in Santry won best senior citizen complex and the best open space was awarded to Courtlands.
Best community environment went to Donaghmeade estate and Community Gardens was awarded to St Annes allotment. Harry Byrnes won the award for best shop front. Best individual contribution went to Jack Gibney from the 44th scouts in Whitehall.
They finish by discussing what the situation is with attaining funding for planting trees in your local area and also talk of addressing the issue of illegal dumping in the community.
