Play

Noel speaks to KATIE O’KELLY, a writer and performer from the play, Counter Culture that was brought to the Axis Theatre, Ballymun.

She talks about how she became a writer, what influences her to write the play about workers’ rights in a Dublin department store and her experience performing as several different characters in the play.

She also describes some of the characters in the play, the harsh working conditions that the characters were under before the strike, what it was like for her father (a fellow actor and playwright) to direct the show and how her research for the play has brought her to hear many great stories from people who worked in the department store.
