Re-opening of Smock Alley Theatre

John Healy speaks to PATRICK SUTTON of the Smock Alley Theatre based in Dublin City Centre. They begin by talking about the new theatre opened in 2012 and first off make a plea for people to contribute any stories which people have from the buildings past. They mention “Flash Kavanagh” the priest who supposedly told the fastest mass in Dublin.

Originally Dublin’s first theatre from 1662, they committed to raising the funds to reopen the project. The project itself began in 2002. They talk of how the project progressed as well as discussing the building itself and the original name was “Theatre Royal”.

They discuss how it is now a working theatre, how to access the building and what greets you when you enter.
