Local historian SHANE MAC TOMAS, talks about his new book, ‘Dead Interesting: Stories from the Graveyards of Dublin’. A collection of 50 stories about people who are buried in graveyards around Dublin. Shane recalls the story of Richard Simpson, who ended up in Dublin from Belfast. Richard was a member of the Ulster Volunteer Force. He died unexpectedly days before the 1916 Rising and his body was forgotten about. Eventually Simpson’s body was brought to Glasnevin and buried in the Republican plot. A man in a British army uniform and member of the UVF.

The book was launched by Senator David Norris and published by Mercier Press.

All profits from the book go into the restoration of Glasnevin Cemetery.
