AAA Continues To Oppose Water Charges

MICHAEL O’BRIEN is a councillor for the Beaumont/Donaghmede Ward of Dublin City Council which includes Coolock, Kilmore, Darndale, Clonshaugh, Clongriffin, Belmayne, Ayrfield, Edenmore, Harmonstown, Kilbarrack and parts of Raheny and Santry. He sits on the North Central Area Committee of Dublin City Council which covers the above areas alongside Donnycarney, Killester, Marino, Fairview, Clontarf and part of Drumcondra.

Michael has been a Socialist Party and trade union activist since 1992. In recent times he was active in the struggle against the household and property taxes from the moment of their announcement at first in Wicklow before his return to Dublin in late 2012 where he was active in the Coolock/Santry campaign.

Alongside other activists in that campaign in the North East of Dublin Michael is involved in the launch of the local branch of the Anti Austerity Alliance.

Michael was elected for the AAA to the council in May 2014 and has since been active in the struggles around water charges in the North East of the city and part of Fingal (Bayside, Sutton, Howth, Baldoyle) as well as housing and the Greyhound Recycling workers lock-out among other issues.

He talks here to Pat Meehan about the on-going anti-water charges campaign in Dublin and nationwide.
