Deputy DESSIE ELLIS joins Noel McGuinness to discuss the rising figures of homeless people in Dublin in 2013, with 8 new people becoming homeless each day. They discuss the possible causes for such a large increase, including home repossesion and talk of possible solutions including using NAMA owned properties to house the homeless.
Dessie makes the case that unless we start building social housing the problem will increase. He talks about how special housing is needed as people are presenting with different problems. We hear of many houses that are boarded up for a variety of reasons including dispute over the house after the death of a family member and also families being unable to pay their mortgage.
