MARISSA RONAN of Dublintellectual.ie, joins Eoin to speak about the work of the website promoting the arts and Humanities in a time of recession. We hear how the group began to meet at Shibeen Chic in Dublin City and how it grew and after 33 events UCD engaged with them on a collaboration to expand and launch “The Culture Lab”, to promote humanities in the public Sphere.
At Dublintellectual it aimed that there would be a series of conversations on culture at each meeting and get a conversation going. They also hoped to support a number of pop up events with very little money. We hear that the Culture Lab will begin by hosting a number of events at The Lab on Foley Street, Dublin.
Marissa speaks of being proud of the creative elements reclaiming many areas of the city which have become available during the recession creating a kind of “cultural renaissance” across the city. The group hopes to build on this by soon hosting an open forum to address the crisis they face within the humanities.
