As part of World Radio Day, Pat Meehan talks to author GARY RUTHERFORD about his new book, ‘Fake Banana Sandwiches and Hidden History’ which recounts the hidden histories within Gary’s family, and namely his wife’s Grandfather Peadar McNulty, and his association with important historical Irish events including the 1916 Rising and The War of Independence.
The name ‘Fake Banana Sandwiches’ comes from the fact that during the war, people had no fruit so they boiled parsnips and used them instead.
