Career coach SUSAN MAXWELL chats with Noel McGuinness. Susan started her career in the travel business. Inh 1997 she spotted a niche in the market and set up a recruitment agency feeding into the travel business. This venture eventually closed as a result of the recession. Following a brief return to further education, Susan discovered her true calling and turned to career coaching.
Susan says it is important to look at the personal and professional sides of a person when working with them. She outlines some basic mistakes that many people make when creating their CVs, including spelling errors, poor overall layout, and providing irrelevant information.
Susan sometimes works with people who may not be up to date with technology. She tries to share her knowledge with them and tells a story about a time when she worked with two people who had spent 34 years in one company and how she prepared them for job interviews.
Susan says appearance and dress style are hugely important when applying for a job. She adds that she is always very honest with people if she believes they can improve their chances of getting the job.
