Marking The East Wall’s Place in History: Festival 2013

Play

JOE MOONEY of the East Wall History group joins Yvette Reid to talk about the forthcoming East Wall History Festival. Joe tells Yvette about of the origins of the history group and its creation in 1998.

Joe says East Wall has a very clear starting point in the city’s history as is on reclaimed land. In the late 1800s and early 1900s it was used for corporation housing. Historically, East Wall was central to the 1913 lockout, the 1916 Easter Rising, and the War of Independence.

Festival 2013 launched in St Joseph’s school. A screening of two “Radharc” documentaries took place. An exhibition called “On the one road” on Church Street showed photographs from across the century.

“It’s off we work to go” is an exhibition about the many companies that operated in the area in previous decades.
