JOE SMITH of the Lions Club joins Noel McGuinness to discuss the Club’s 2013 Christmas Food Drive. They discuss the work of the Lions Club in over 200 countries worldwide over the past 60 years.
In Ireland, the Lions Club liaise with a number of other agencies, including St Vincent de Paul and Women’s Refuges and Father Kevin in Church Street, Dublin. They also do great work in the Third World. The Lions Club is entirely volunteer run, and members pay a fee to be a part of the group.
The 2013 Food Drive is running in 200 Tesco stores. With a volunteer based in each store, the group will be collecting food over two days. Tesco will also top up the amount by donating a further 30% to the food already collected.
Joe says other stores taking part over the Christmas period include Supervalu, Nolans and many others.
