DAVE O’CONNOR Secretary of NEAR Media Co-op talks to Noel McGuinness about Near FM’s 17th birthday celebrations and reflects back on the station’s history.
Near FM first went on air in 1995. Then, it was only on three days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The first voice on Near FM was Chairman, Vincent Teeling who tested that all the equipment was working. The first presenter was Liam Byrne, followed by Dave O’Connor himself.
It had taken ten years prior to that first broadcast to get Near FM from the ideas and drawing board stages up to going live on the Irish airwaves.
