SEAN MOYNIHAN from Alone, joins Ronnie O’Brien to discuss the bin charge waiver which is planned to be cancelled in 2012. They begin by talking about an apparent lack of information available to people who will be affected. They also discuss a number of variations which will occur depending on which county council a person will be situated within. Sean explains the situation as he understands it.
They discuss the demographic of the area which Near FM is based and talk about the incomes many people of this demographic are currently earning and how the change in the bin waiver will affect them. They talk about changes and newly introduced charges which are putting people into financial distress at the time.
They about how services being moved onto an online web based payment system is creating hardship for an older generation to pay their fees, along with causing unnecessary stress.
Sean continues by discussing the work of Alone and how they are extremely busy trying to support the older generations of Ireland. He discusses how they have ten applications for each social house which comes onto the market, showing a large need for more social housing.
